The «Italian Journal of Mycology» is a peer reviewed journal founded in 1972 by Prof. Gilberto Govi and Prof. Gabriele Goidanich as “Micologia Italiana” (Italian Mycology). It was established at the University of Bologna, and it is the official organ of the Italian Mycological Society (Unione Micologica Italiana - UMI). Since 2015, it is an open access journal hosted and maintained by AlmaDL.

The Italian Journal of Mycology (IJM) publishes original papers (research articles, authoritative reviews and short notes), news (commissioned conference reports, book reviews) and editorials on biology, ecology and taxonomy of fungi and false fungi (Oomycetes, Myxomycetes and Plasmodiophoromycetes). The Journal will accept papers that reach a high standard of scientific endeavour as judged by international peer reviews.
